Herts County Art Show Competition

Children from St Helen’s School were gripped with Olympic fever and Diamond Jubilee fervour last week! The entries received for the Herts County Show Art Competition were phenomenal – ranging from Olympic torches to royal crowns.

35 lucky children were given tickets to the Herts County Show and three children (Georgina,Abigail and Blake)have been entered into a countrywide competition. Congratulations to all the lucky entrants.

Children’s Disco

Chldren had lots of fun last weekend when the Friends of St Helen’s School organised two very successful KS1 and KS2 discos.

Chess Tournament

As part of the Harpenden and District Sports Association’s events, a number of our children enjoyed playing chess in a fun competition at Roundwood Park School.

Here is a report by Matthew-

On Wednesday, our chess club competed in the chess tournament. We all played extremely well and we had many victories and played to the best of our abilities. Even though we came 9th, our team effort was still as strong as ever. This was helped by Mr Rouse and Mr Goodchild who gave up their time and effort to support us. But without Mr Emeny, we would still be in the class working because he was the one who entered us in the first place. Overall, everyone thought it was a great experience and would do it again (only if the weather gets better)!

St George’s Day

On St George’s Day, children who are members of the Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Scouts and Cubs are invited to come to school dressed in thir uniforms.

Legal Eagles

On 29 March Year 6 children enjoyed a visit from ‘Legal Eagles’ – a company that educates older children in aspects of the legal system.

The children enjoyed re-enacting a court case and had to decide upon the verdict. Needless to say the defendent was found ….”guilty as charged”.

Le Marché Francais

Friday 23 March saw the school awash with French flags and bunting as market stalls were set up in the hall for the children to buy and sell various goods. In basic French they spent their euros , guessed the Teddy’s name and tried their luck at a sweet tombola!

Lunch was based on a French theme with mousse au chocolate being a strong favourite. The KS2 children enjoyed a quiz, followed by KS1 entertaining the children and parents with French songs. Parents were able to sit in the French café enjoying coffee and biscuits and children later joined them as the day finished with a cake sale.
